Kevin Mitchell and Kathleen Bourne purchased the picturesque Woodvale Property in Penwortham’s Skilly Valley in 2004 with a view to plant vineyard and produce their own label.
Woodvale Vintners is the product of Kevin’s continual striving for perfection. Never resting on his laurels, Kevin’s close attention to the smallest detail from the vineyard through to the finished packaged product is borne out by the 2018 Halliday Wine Companion accolade as one of Australia’s Top Ten New Wineries after achieving 5 stars on it’s debut review.
After planting 5 acres of Pinot Gris and 5 acres of Riesling, in 2006, they nurtured the vines with the aid of Kevin’s father Mort Mitchell. Procuring fruit from good mates and using their own grapes, they began production in 2014. The focus is on small batches of Clare Valley’s most esteemed varieties, Riesling and Shiraz. Further choice is provided through Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, Semillon and Mataro. Thus a fine stable of pedigree wines is available to please all tastes.
