2016 Khileyre Riesling

Tasting notes

The pinnacle Riesling in Woodvale’s portfolio and created in a true Reserve style, the Khileyre has been named after Kathleen’s old family property in the Clare Valley. Bone dry with its searing acid contribution, the nose and palate are all Watervale. A cooler and more elegant vintage; the favours of lemon curd, tangerines, floral highlights and orange blossom beautifully combine with the additional time spent in bottle further adding to the wines complexity and textural qualities. Twenty plus years of cellaring potential ahead.

Anointed as Woodvale’s ‘flagship’ riesling. It has fruit intensity but it also seems mannered and reserved, even taut. It’s not playing all of its cards up front; some are still pressed to its chest. Lime leaf, bath salts, mineral and florals. It looks to be in a good place, but headed for a better one.
