The newly released 2016 Spring Garden Shiraz is sourced from three vineyards across the Clare Valley and named after my Great Grandfather, Tom Duke’s, orchard property that is adjacent the Woodvale vineyard. A location steeped in family history for me and a wine very worthy of having that name bestowed upon it. Inky crimson red in colour with red fruits, dark cherries, cocoa and tar cocooned within a layer of quality French oak and gentle tannins. Its textural qualities and long finish a legacy of its 9 days fermenting on skins, its traditional basket pressing, 18 months ageing in a blend of new and more seasoned small oak casks. Bottling the wine un-fined and un-filtered further increasing the wines appeal. Cellaring potential of at least another 12 – 15 years.
